Gunmetal
Gunmetal is our standard finish, and is mild steel, dark anthracite in colour. Before it leaves our factory, we oil treat it to protect it. Treat it like a wok, and if any surface rusts appears, rub it down and apply any vegetable oil to protect as and when is needed. If kept under cover, should be trouble free.
Can my Gunmetal be left outside year-round?
Yes, our grills are designed to be outside all year round, with autumn and winter being our favourite times of year for wood-fire cooking. When not in use, put the cover on.
How does my Gunmetal grill weather?
Your Gunmetal Grill base is raw steel, so if left untreated it will gain a rusty patina over time. For this reason, we pre-oil your Gunmetal Grill with rapeseed oil for protection so you just need to add fire to finish the seasoning process off - just like seasoning a wok or cast-iron pan.
Long-term you have two options:
Option 1: Keep seasoning your Gunmetal grill and keep covered when not in use. The ember maker will need a quick coating of rapeseed oil after each cook due to the heat in this area, whereas the rest of the grill will just need doing when needed.
Option 2: Let it weather naturally and develop its own patina over time. The thickness of the raw steel base means it will last 10 years without any issues.
Cor-Ten
Put simply, Cor-Ten steel (also written as corten or COR-TEN®) is a type of high-strength, low-alloy structural steel renowned for its resistance to abrasion and corrosion. Originally developed by United States Steel in the 1930s, it was initially used in the shipping industry for constructing durable shipping containers.
What sets Cor-Ten steel apart is its unique weathering properties. When exposed to the elements, it forms a protective rust-like patina on its surface. This distinctive layer not only gives the material its striking, industrial appearance but also prevents further corrosion, making it incredibly durable and long-lasting.

316 Stainless Steel
316 is marine grade stainless steel — the same grade used in coastal architecture, surgical instruments, and professional kitchens. What sets it apart from standard stainless is the addition of molybdenum, which gives it exceptional resistance to salt, heat, and the elements.
Unlike Gunmetal or Cor-Ten, 316 stainless requires no oiling, no treatment, and no painting. It arrives ready to cook on and asks very little of you beyond an occasional clean.

Will my 316 Stainless Steel discolour?
Yes, over time heat from live fire will cause some discolouration around the cooking area. That's normal for any steel exposed to high temperatures and doesn't affect performance. A clean with a stainless steel cleaner will freshen it up when needed.

Cor-Ten is weathering steel. It's designed to develop a rust-coloured patina over the first few months of outdoor use. That patina isn't damage it's the steel protecting itself. Once it forms, it seals the surface and stops corrosion going any deeper.
So the short answer is: leave it alone. No painting, no treatment, no annual oiling. Just cook on it.
A few things worth knowing:
Early days. When your Cor-Ten Grill first arrives, the surface will look like raw steel. Over the first few weeks outdoors, especially after rain, you'll see the patina start to develop. It's uneven at first, then settles into a deep, even rust-brown over a few months. That's normal.
Run-off in the early stages. While the patina is forming, rainwater can carry rust-coloured run-off onto whatever sits underneath. Worth bearing in mind if it's standing on light-coloured stone or decking. Once the patina has settled, run-off stops.
The cooking surfaces. The V Grill, ember maker top, and any stainless steel parts can be brushed clean after each cook. A wire brush while still warm does the job.
Covers. A cover isn't necessary for protection, but if you'd rather slow the patina or keep it tidier-looking between cooks, you can use one.
Lifespan. With no intervention at all, expect 25+ years of cooking. The patina protects the steel beneath for the long haul.

Is UK delivery free?
Yes. Delivery is free to UK mainland, Scottish Islands, and Northern Ireland, and included in all prices shown. For Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, we add a £85 surcharge.
How long does UK delivery take?
Gunmetal Grills are usually in stock, so delivery is 2–3 working days. When on pre-order, estimated delivery times are shown on the product page. Need next-day or Saturday delivery? Get in touch and we'll arrange it.
Once dispatched, you'll get a tracking email so you can follow your grill's progress. We'll also contact you to arrange a delivery day that suits you.
How does delivery work?
Because of the size and weight (65kg+), each grill is delivered fully assembled on a standard pallet by specialist courier. The courier will unload by tail-lift to the kerbside or entrance of your property, getting as close as possible to where you need it. On gravel drives the lorry will get as close as it can.
Deliveries run Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm. Saturday deliveries available on request.
All grills with Woodstore stands have heavy-duty castor wheels, so they're easy to move into place. The standalone Asado takes two people to carry. The Grande takes four.
Access considerations
Delivery addresses need to be accessible by 7.5t lorry. A few things worth knowing:
- If your property can't be accessed by 7.5t lorry, extra shipping charges may apply. Get in touch and we'll sort it
- If you have narrow access to the rear of your house, we can deliver the grill broken down into a few sections for easy reassembly
- Larger outdoor kitchen orders may come on a dedicated van

Can you ship outside the UK?
Yes, throughout Europe via FedEx TNT on pallets. Select your country of delivery from the dropdown at the top right of the website to see VAT-free Euro pricing. Delivery cost is added at checkout.
European delivery charges:

- Germany, Scandinavia, Italy, Greece: £395
Just before delivery, FedEx will contact you to pay any local VAT and duties.

What is Cor-ten?
CAN I COOK WITH WOOD AS WELL AS CHARCOAL?
Yes. Wood is what the grill was built for, but a good British lumpwood charcoal works well on its own or mixed in with the logs, and the Ember Maker gives it the airflow it needs for an even burn. Charcoal gets you cooking faster with a steadier heat; wood takes about an hour to reach a bed of embers but gives you the smoke, flavour and flames. Plenty of owners do both.
How Does Delivery Work?
Free delivery to the UK mainland, Scottish Islands and Northern Ireland, fully assembled on a pallet. Lead times vary with demand — we'll confirm your delivery date when you order, and you're welcome to ask before you buy.
